Add additional meta boxes to Hybrid Theme

At the time of writing this post I have Theme Hybrid as my parent theme, and am using a custom version of Hybrid News that Justin Tadlock offers to the public.

Well I want to tell you how you can add additional custom meta boxes to your child theme’s running the Hybrid Theme.

In your child function.php file just add the following to create a new post meta box:

* Add additional post meta boxes
*
* by WPCult
*/
function wpcult_post_meta_boxes($meta_boxes) {
	$meta_boxes['image'] = array(
		'name' => 'image',
		'default' => '',
		'title' => __('Image:'),
		'type' => 'text',
		'show_description' => false,
		'description' => __('Please use a full size image, larger than 500px (this photo will dynamically re-size itself!'),
	);
	return $meta_boxes;
}
add_filter('hybrid_post_meta_boxes', 'wpcult_post_meta_boxes');

This will create a custom meta box called Image, and will create a custom field with the id of image.

Additionally you can create this on pages as well by copy/paste and replacing “post_meta_box” with “page_meta_box” every where inside the function.

Nice hack Frosty, it works… 😀 btw, what’s the purpose of this new meta box?
As far as I know, image function meta box already added (Thumbnail and Medium) right?

  I use it to generate dynamic resized images with a image php file I’ve got. Think if you need to add a simple meta box to add to custom fields.

Using Hybrid on a site, and fairly a newbie overall at WP, but having a helluva time locating wp_list_pages to modify the header.

Can you tell me where its located?

The release of Galleria, a gallery child theme of Hybrid

As the WordPress community grows, so does the amount of available themes. Galleria is a gallery-style child theme for WordPress built on the Hybird theme framework. Originally, this theme was created by Chirs Wallace for the Thematic theme framework and released at Smashing Magazine.

So I am excited to announce another theme release from WPCult and Frosty Web Designs. A few days back, I came across this post at Smashing Magazine.

Just recently we asked you to let us know what theme you would like us to release next. Among numerous comments we found many request for a gallery-theme that could be particularly useful for portfolios and showcases. At the very same time Christopher Wallace has been designing an advanced gallery-WordPress-theme for the design community and Smashing Magazine’s audience. And today finally we are proud to release it – for free, of course.

Well, I liked this theme, and while I am a big fan of the Thematic theme, I know there are many out there who love Hybrid. Hybrid is Justin Tadlocks theme framework, which can be downloaded for free at http://themehybrid.com/themes/hybrid.

Just an FYI, this site is running hybrid as a parent theme. 🙂

I contacted Chris and told him of this theme port I would be doing. After a few days of modifications, bug fixes, and styling, the theme is ready for public release.

While Galleria shares a few qualities with his sibling, the differences are notable in the style, color, and layout throughout the theme, including the theme options.

New theme release: CULT[i]VATE

Doing theme modification and even custom template files has brought me to this point. Today I’ve created my first premium theme, and since I am a huge fan of Hybrid, I decided that a child theme would be an appropriate starting point.

So after some time playing with many options and idea’s I’ve finally released a premium theme. This theme, which I am calling CULT[i]VATE is a child theme.

CULT[i]VATE is a child theme of the Hybrid:

I’ve had some time the last few days while my XPS computer has been having difficulties and the Dell replacement parts didn’t fix, what I know now to be a faulty LCD screen.

So I’ve made a few updates and changes to my WordCult theme. The new version is: 0.3.

Update for 0.3:

A lot of changes to the core files, many files have been changed, removed and moved. So please if upgrading, backup your database. The core folder has been changed from wordcult2 to wordcult so you may want to just upload it as another theme and activate it.
