Working on a new theme called WordCult

So I have been really busy, and haven’t been able to put up a new post since I got back from WordCamp Denver.

WordCult Screenshot

Working on some clients site’s and also a WordPress theme!

I have finished about 80% of the theme which is based off my current theme located on my personal blog site: TheFrosty. TheFrosty is using version 0.1 of the theme, which has many faults and bugs. I have fixed many of them, and probably added a few others.

In version 0.2 I’ve added a new jQuery “featured posts” loader and the option for sticky posts. I have also fixed a lot of CSS errors, it should W3C comply :).

Also in the newer version I have tried to add more to the admin panel, in ways of options.

If you would like to download this theme and test it out before I release it to the community please let me know. I would love to get some feedback or ideas on what you’ve got to say. Just use the contact form or send me a message on Twitter.

Download it:

[download#1#format=1]
Download Version 0.3

Once you’ve got the theme..

Let me know what you think! Leave you comments and feedback. I am also trying to get a forum up on the site as well.
Thanks!
Frosty

Update for 0.2:

I’ve updated my personal site: TheFrosty to the latest version of WordCult (0.2). I’ve already found some small bugs and CSS fixes that need to be taken care of. Also I don’t think that the Adsense display is working correctly.
If you’ve noticed any issues please contact me or leave a comment.

Update for 0.2.1:

The new version, 0.2.1 brings in some integration from Justin Tadlocks Widgets Reloaded plugin. It’s fully integrated into the theme. So you’ll notice some widgets disappear and be replaced by others. If you need to get them back Justin makes a plugin that will “release” the old widgets on your new theme install.

Update: 0.3

Get the newest version of WordCult, download Version 0.3 from this page.

  • Brilliant theme!!!

Just one question! I notice that images are re-sized as thumbnails for the front page, based on what images are contained within each post.

Is there a way of not duplicating this with posts that have just one image?

e.g. Post has an image at the top say 480x180. This also appears on the frontpage, albeit smaller/thumbnail which is fine. But the smaller version of said image appears at the top of the post as well in the top-left corner, so two of the same image in the one post?

    This make any sense?!!

    • I was confused for a second, but I think I under what you asking. On the single post, ONLY if there is more than one attachment show the "one" thumbnail on the left?

      • A picture probably explains it better!

        http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2194/64429256.gif

The top most image is the thumbnail from the post.

The lower most image is the post itself which contains just one image. Well, two now as it has a copy of the thumbnail in the top-left corner of the page? Just wonder if it was possible for this to be removed whilst showing on the front-page as thumbnail?

        • Yes, it's possible.
On the single.php file, find line 46 and change this:

          wordcult_custom_image('image','single','','','alignleft','90');

to this: (comment out the php code)

          // wordcult_custom_image('image','single','','','alignleft','90');

This will remove the single image from all of the single post pages.

          • Brilliant! That works a treat.

Very last question if I may! It's with regards to Adsense.

In the theme configurations I've put my Google Ad Client ID ('pub-numbers') and then also the 468x60 Ad Slot ID but the ads aren't appearing on the frontpage in the top right corner? Don't know if I'm missing something?

            Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

Now using the theme and have made only a couple of alterations. But I think I've found a bizarre 'bug' which I can't fathom out to fix!

If you look at the following page: http://www.red-bullog.com/2009/04/06/is-this-thing-on/ authors names appear fine and upon hovering-over them their respective URLs appear (if present).

However, if I'm logged into my Wordpress admin page, these don't appear? The authors names are invisible until I hover over them. As soon as I log out and go back to the page they're back again? Tried it in FireFox and Opera and the same happens?

Dank´s last blog post..Malaysian GP – Late start, early finish, 1.5 points

  • I'm going to check it out and let you know what I think thank you for the information!

  • I enjoyed reading your interesting yet very informative insights. I am looking forward to reading more of your most recent articles and blogs. :D -10top

  • Great looking theme! I especially like the footer. Very easy to read and does not cause the usual mess you see on wp themes. I downloaded it and will test it out. Is it free to use on non-commercial blogs?
